Foster's takes key position at Expo

Melbourne, 08 June 2000

Foster's Lager is exclusively "The Official Beer of the Australian Pavilion" at the world exhibition, Expo 2000, in Hanover, Germany.

A specially constructed Sports Bar serves Foster's to visitors at the Australian Pavilion. The bar is also open after hours to serve the crowds who gather to watch the nightly shows at the adjacent main Expo Square.

Exclusively available at the VIP club within the pavilion, Foster's is host to a succession of official receptions and events over the five months of Expo 2000, which runs from June to October.

With more than 40 million visitors expected to attend the world exhibition during the five-month event, Foster's is also in the enviable position of being the international beer at more than 150 bars and restaurants throughout the Expo site.

Foster's is also strongly represented in a number of special events during the Expo, including 'Australia's National Day' on 11th July, which will be attended by Australia's Foreign Minister, Mr Alexander Downer.

"We are delighted to be taking such a prominent role in show-casing Australia at this global event," Andy Hall, Foster's International's Vice President for UK/Europe said.

"Our position at the Expo gives us tremendous exposure to the visitors from around the world that are anticipated to visit Hanover this year. It also underlines Foster's intrinsic association with Australia as 'Australia's Famous Beer'," Mr Hall said.

Foster's, which is the top selling non-European International beer in Germany, is the fastest growing major beer brand in Europe, achieving double digit growth for the last five years, and holding the position of the third most widely distributed international lager beer worldwide.

In 1999, Foster's hit the number six spot in the Western European beer market according to international brewing industry specialists Plato Logic Limited, consolidating Foster's position in this competitive beer market.

Commenting on the jump from number eight to number six in the European market, Andy Hall said, "we are really pleased, although not surprised, by our increase in status within Europe. The positioning of Foster's as number six in the European market is indicative of the growing strength of the Foster's brand globally."
