Wolf Blass wins international wine awards

The Australian winemaking team of Beringer Blass Wine Estates (Beringer Blass), a global leader in premium wine and a major division of Foster's Group, has received the top honours at the world's most prestigious wine and spirit competition, announced last night in London.

The 2002 International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) Presentation Banquet in London voted:

The International Wine and Spirits Competition, established since 1969, sets the benchmark for international quality of wine and spirits and this year 4,100 wines and spirits were entered for professional tasting and analysis.

For the Robert Mondavi Winemaker of the Year Trophy, Wolf Blass was the only Australian winery nominated in the final line-up of 10 international wine producers from diverse countries including France, Italy, Germany, the USA, New Zealand and South Africa who were shortlisted for the global wine industry's most prestigious award. Wolf Blass was first awarded the International Winemaker of the Year Trophy in 1992.

Wolf Blass Platinum Shiraz 1998, the most successful single Beringer Blass wine in the IWSC awards, was also recently rated 95 by the influential Wine Spectator magazine.
