Mildara

Mildara was among the earliest pioneers of the internationally renowned Coonawarra region in the 1950s.

Ron Haselgrove, Mildara’s Managing Director, bought 12,735 litres of Coonawarra red wine from Bill Redman In 1953.

Ron recognised that the Coonawarra could produce classical, elegant Cabernets, and in 1955 he purchased the Company’s first 12.5ha of the Coonawarra’s famous Terra Rossa soil.

With one of the longest pedigrees in Coonawarra, Mildara has built an enviable reputation for its quality and long living red wines – particularly with Cabernet Sauvignon.

In particular, Mildara is also known for its iconic 1963 Mildara Cabernet Sauvignon, which earned the nick-name "Peppermint Pattie".

To this day Peppermint Pattie still considered to be one of Australia’s most famous wines among wine experts and collectors, fetching remarkable prices on the auction market (when it appears on rare occasions).
