Beringer is the only winery to have had both a red and white wine each named "Wine of the Year" by Wine Spectator Magazine. Beringer's Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and Private Reserve Chardonnay received this honor.
Chief Winemaker Laurie Hook oversees the winemaking at Beringer Vineyards, she is the 7th winemaker in the winery's history to hold this position.
In 1986, Laurie came to Beringer as an enologist, a job that allowed her to solidify the scientific side of her training. In 1997, she was named Assistant Winemaker to Winemaster Ed Sbragia, and in 2000 was promoted to Winemaker for Beringer Vineyards.
In 2005, she was named Chief Winemaker and Winemaster Emeritus Ed Sbragia continues to work with Laurie on the Private Reserve blends today.
