Local school students will receive hands-on science education and participate in real-life restoration work, boosting their environmental awareness and the prospects of protecting the local environment into the future.

The Education Enhancement Program provides a year-round after school program for low-income Hispanic youth. Responding to parents who saw their children failing in school, the program provides invidualized lesson plans and family support, including accompanying parents to school conferences where requested. Educators work with the children on study habits and academic skills, as well as complementary environment and arts activities. A specialised Learning Center is stocked with a wide range of educational resources available to students and families.

This project is a specialised after school program which aims to provide a safe environment for at-risk youth to learn valuable skills and deter deliquency. Participants learn how to create digital movies, graphic art, websites, commercials and broadcast news segments. Particular emphasis is placed on reinforcing core sills including reading, computing & problem solving.
Arizona - USA
This project helps young women aged 18-21 who are no longer eligible for child welfare funding to become self-sufficient. The program provides housing along with training in independent living skills, money management and job readiness over a period of two years. These young women have no family support, and some are themselves already mothers. Without assistance many would face homelessness and permanent welfare dependency.

This resident-initiated project aims to revegetate creeks close to urban Cairns. Rapid development has damaged riparian health, biodiversity and water quality, which residents will tackle through planting indigenous vegetation and removing weed species.

Community Night Patrols are wholly Aboriginal initiatives that aim to prevent crime, settle disputes, and mediate solutions to conflict within their own communities, language and family groups. The provision of a vehicle to the Belyuen community will ensure vital community support activities are maintained. Under the direction of Belyuen community elders, the vehicle provided by a Fosters Community Grant will be used to provide respite and cultural learning activities for young people and also to operate a community night patrol.

A skate / blade / ball / bike park will be built for the youth of the district, providing much needed facilities for healthy and safe recreation. A feature of the project is the involvement of young people, together with the local youth worker, in planning, designing and managing this park.

In collaboration with the Wiradjuri artists group, this project will involve the building of a permanent structure ("shed") in the NSW regional town of Condobolin. Men will build the shed and use it as a centre for cultural learning, dance, cooking and instrument making. Along the way, project participants will connect with their culture and community, and learn skills on a structured pathway towards TAFE (vocational) training.

The Family Excursion Program aims to assist families recently released from immigration detention centres. Volunteers arrange and lead free monthly excursions to parks, zoos, movies and the like. Excursions bring a sense of social connection to a group of people whose uncertain legal status makes them particularly vulnerable and marginal in our community.
